Every year Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company shuts down for its annual maintenance.
2024 was a big year because for the first time in 25 years the “Track,” cables, the cables that the cable cars run were replaced.
A massive undertaking as each cable weighs 20 tonnes. Massive winches, and generators had to be stripped and flown to the top of the mountain by helicopter – to be reassembled once on top. All of this during Cape Town’s mid-winter storms.
These videos showcase the work done.
